Southern Highland Fling

Welcome to the Spring/Summer edition of the Southern Highland Fling.
Any season, there is a reason to visit this beautiful region in New South Wales, Australia.

Positioned halfway between Sydney and Canberra and an easy freeway drive from both capitals, it has much to offer. The flourishing wine industry now has 14 diverse cellar doors, some with excellent restaurants and cafes.

We are introducing three new columnists in this issue. Urbane wine connoisseur, Robin Twist, shares his knowledge with us in his witty critiques of selected local wines in "A Twisted View," and we asked Robin Murray, "The Highland Chef" to 'put his heart on paper' about his life-time passion for food. As well, Malcolm Murray gives us his personal insight about golf courses in the Southern Highlands in the first review of a series.

Artistic life flourishes in the Southern Highlands, and there are many and varied excellent galleries, societies and courses to enjoy. Antique lovers are well catered for and our book trail is legendary.

Accommodation varies from quaint B & B's to five star resorts with spas and the Visitor Information Centre at 62-70 Main Street, Mittagong has an accommodation booking service. Whether you are looking for a romantic weekend away for two, a family holiday or an effective business conference, they can organise your bookings free of charge. (Phone 1300 657 559)

There is much happening during Spring/Summer. Tulip Time is the flagship event for the Southern Highlands; a not-to-be-missed event!

Nature lovers are also well catered for. There are peaceful country walks, lookouts over incredible gorges and waterfalls, canoe and kayak meanders down pristine waters, bird watching and cycling. You can be as active or relaxed as you please in this beautiful, addictive region with the rolling green hills.

So, from the team at the Southern Highland Fling, we wish you a wonderful time as you 'Celebrate Country Charm' in the Southern Highlands... Bradman Country.
